If you have any questions or if you have any concerns about your child, please feel free to contact me.  As I am traveling throughout the building during the day, e-mail is the best way to reach me: jwade@rsu18.org.  You can also reach me by telephone at 495-2321 Ext. 6213; I will return any voicemails within two school days.  You may contact the office in case of an emergency.

March 2017

Happy (almost) Spring, Everyone! As the time change approaches, I wanted to reach out with some helpful tips and hints to keep this time of year as nonstressful as possible!

• About a week before the time change, begin putting your child to bed 15 to 20 minutes earlier, moving the time back every few days until you reach a full hour — a week ahead usually works best. So, if your child has a 7:00 p.m. bedtime, you want to begin with bedtime at 6:40 p.m., then 6:20 p.m., then 6:00 p.m.

• Be as consistent as possible with your child’s food and sleep schedule. This means that you need to shift all meals and snacks earlier as well. Watch the clock to stay on the new schedule of 20, then 40, then 60 minutes earlier.

• After about a week, your child should be back at their 7:00 p.m. bedtime.

• Be flexible. While it pays to be consistent and watch the clock, you still need to be

aware of your child's sleepy cues and make the transition slowly.

• Keep evening activities very calm; no bright lights or screentime that stimulates.

Plan adequate time for you child to wind down before bedtime.

It is also the time of year in which we begin to plan for summer camps. We have a limited number of scholarships available. Income guidelines apply. Please contact me for further information.
