Nine RSU 18 teachers nominated for teacher of the year!

February 18, 2017

Our staff has received many well-deserved recognitions and awards over the course of the past year.  Now, an unprecedented number of educators from RSU 18 have been nominated for the Kennebec County Teacher of the year.

These nine educators were nominated by students, fellow teachers, or administrators:

MHS English teacher Lisette Bordes, MMS Social Studies/ELA teacher Jamie Routhier, MMS Physical Education teacher Paul Begley, WES Art teacher Ellen Gronlie, WES fifth grade teacher Valerie Glueck,  JHB second grade teacher Nancy Burton, CPS second grade teacher Sonja Boudreau, BCS first grade teacher Laura Dunbar, and Atwood pre-k teacher Krystal Blaisdell.
Each teacher can decide whether to continue with the process or opt out.

The Maine Teacher of the Year program results in the selection of 16 County Teachers of the Year. One of the 16 is then chosen as Maine State Teacher of the Year and goes on to represent Maine in the National Teacher of the Year Program.  Past winners in the district include 2016 Kennebec Valley Teacher of the Year Andy Forster and 2011 Maine State Teacher of the Year  Shelly Moody.
